I know many think Cinnamon Toast is so easy to make, but you can find different opinions about how it making. It has a long history. There is a book named “English Food” by British food writer Jane Grigson explains as far back as 1660, Robert May in his ‘The Accomplish Cook’ has a recipe for ‘Cinnamon Toast’ that says for putting a mixture of cinnamon, claret and sugar on toast and then warming it. 1st method

  1. Butter a slice of bread
  2. Add sugar and cinnamon into a bowl
  3. Stir it to combine.
  4. Sprinkle the cinnamon mixture on top of the butter, then pop it in the oven: 10 minutes at 350, then finish it off under the broiler.

2nd method

  1. Firstly Butter a slice of bread.
  2. Then pop it in a 350-degree oven for 15 minutes
  3. Then turn on the broiler
  4. Let it go for a minute until it became a golden colour
  5. Then remove it from the oven.
  6. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

The difference between 1st and 2nd method.

  • Adding the cinnamon sugar before you put the toast in the oven results in a topping that is slightly caramelized and crisp. 
  • But when you put cinnamon on after the fact it remains loose on the surface partly soaking into the buttery bread. But both are good.


  • 2 sticks of salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract 
  • 16 slices of bread.
